Vanderpool Family Portraits

January 13, 2011  |  Portraits  |

The lovely Vanderpool family braved terrible traffic to meet me for their annual Christmas portrait. I was happy to see they also brought their photogenic dog Madison!

The girls were adorable in their coordinating dresses (great job, mom!). This family knows how to choose outfits for a photo session! If the idea of putting together portrait-ready outfits sends you into a panic attack, have no fear! Just send me an email and I’ll provide you with some easy ideas and examples.

Thanks to the Vanderpool family for trusting me with such special memories!

When Gibu called me with his idea for a sunrise engagement session, I have to admit I had mixed feelings of:

“Oh, what an awesome, original idea!”
- and -
“I WILL NEVER SURVIVE THIS.”

See, I’m not really what you would call a morning person. I prefer to be in a dream during the time sunrises happen. However, I felt like I could not say no to such a unique shoot, and by some miraculous force I did manage to peel myself out of bed and get to the Lincoln Memorial by 6am.

Totally WORTH IT.

Jenny and Gibu were awesome to work with and I loved their adventurous spirit. Plus it’s not every day that you see the Lincoln without a single tourist around. I’m bummed that I won’t be able to photograph the wedding, but I’m sure it will be beautiful. Congrats guys!

What do you do when you are photographing a wedding the next day and see thunderstorms in the forecast? Just follow these simple steps!

1. Freak out and yell at the computer screen.
2. Apologize for alarming your husband.
3. Race to Target 15 minutes before closing and buy all the umbrellas they have (bonus points for matching them to the wedding colors!).
4. Try to explain your purchase to the suspicious lady at the check-out (bonus points if you don’t sound like a crazy person).
5. Hand them out to a fun bridal party the next day and make great images.

Emily and Tom are the cutest, most laid-back couple. I think I was much more worried about the rain than either of them! Thanks Emily and Tom for being such great sports, and for letting me have fun with you two in the wet streets of Alexandria!

I was excited at the chance to photograph Brittany and Ryan’s big day.  They are great people, dear friends, and so much fun to photograph!  The wedding was a beautiful expression of love, friendship, and delicious cake (this couple knows a thing or two about baking).  Thanks again, guys, and I wish you all the best in your new life together!

I was so honored that this couple flew me to South Carolina from Washington, DC for their romantic outdoor wedding.  Bess and Michael have been best friends for a long time, and you can tell by how perfectly they get along.

Everything went wonderfully– great weather, fun wedding party, and I didn’t miss a single highway exit getting to the wedding site!  Trust me, that’s a BIG deal.

Congratulations Bess and Michael!
